Region 1 Planning Council has a number of programs that focus on community and neighborhood revitalization. The Northern Illinois Land Bank works to acquire abandoned properties and put them back into productive use.The Boone and Winnebago County Trustee Programs acquire delinquent tax properties on behalf of the taxing bodies in each county. Both programs focus on increasing the property tax base by increasing values of these properties. In addition, R1 is the lead agency for a Brownfield Coalition Assessment Grant from US EPA. The Brownfield grant allows environmental assessment of properties in Boone and Winnebago Counties.
