Winnebago County Geographic Information System (WinGIS)

PURPOSE

As a part of Region 1 Planning Council, Winnebago County Geographic Information System (WinGIS) creates and manages a comprehensive, county-wide Geographic Information System (GIS) designed to offer shared data and applications to its members, and contributes to multidisciplinary, collaborative planning. WinGIS enables more efficient and effective decisions to provide better services to the public.

Institution

In an effort to develop the technical expertise and tools at a reasonable cost, WinGIS was founded in 2000 as a consortium agency consisting of City of Loves Park, City of Rockford, North Park Public Water District, Rockford Park District, Village of Cherry Valley, Village of Machesney Park, and Four Rivers Sanitation Authority, and Winnebago County. More history here.

June 2017, WinGIS relocated to Regional 1 Planning Council, and joined the agency September 2018, further increasing its service capabilities.
